Motivation #4: Sophia

You might not know Sophia, but you have definitely seen her work. Peep the animated version of me in my banner. Also, the piles of shit on the “Pursuit of Crappyness” section (which I actually stole from her work in Complex mag) goodtimes!

When she’s not illustrating or schooling, she keeps herself busy with an activity called ‘keepin it mad real’. This usually consists of either calling you out on your bullshit (I’ve seen it happen) or giving props where props is due (check the interview). On some real shit, motherfuckers is getting soft. This is Motivation.

• where are you from?

i usually just say queens but if you really wanna know, flushing.

• what turns you on/off about guys?

straight to it eh? on: im all about personality. and looks too, but more personality. i like chill guys. we share the same interests, someone who has an opinion on things, someone who is knowledgeable in the things he talks about. honest, confident, ambitious. and a sense of humor.
off: bad hygienes, too dependent, bad priorities, unmotivated, dishonest – basically the opposite of everything above.

• what attracted you to your first crush?

he was quiet and mysterious.

• if you were a dude where would you take a girl on a date?

damn i dont know. i like coffeeshops. i dont know if girls are into that. girls are bitches.

• what is your ideal guy wearing?

fitted, plaid shirt and some nike blazers or vans authentics. gauges, some messy facial hair (not too nasty though) some sleeves would be nice too.

• what motivates you?

my failures.

• how do you force yourself to get up in the morning?

sometimes i black out for a few seconds because i get out of bed too quickly, so i march in place to recover. it also gets the blood flowing in my system so I can focus on brushing my teeth and getting dressed.

• who’s your hero?

james jean and tomer hanuka. go google them. but ill tell you why they’re my heroes. i think that they are for one, very talented artists and they certainly worked their way up to where they are today. they are artists who pursue their dreams by tackling one project after another. they do what artists should do: draw everyday. and just looking at their work you know that they are very knowledgeable in their field and have developed their own style through hard work. i don’t know man, they’re just sick. period. the end. and jesus, cuz he loved everyone. and im really bad at that.

• where do you see yourself in 5 years?

the ideal? just working on my shit man. making something of myself. meeting people getting jobs and illustrating. doing editorial work and working on graphics for stuff. and being happy with my life.

• summer plans?

for the month of june i will taking summer courses at FIT. the class is called ‘art history in NYC‘. but it’s REALLY about establishments of museums in nyc, how they began and how they are today. and studying all the subliminal messages that the curators and founders put in each exhibit. i’ll also be interning with frank stockton (illustrator). check his work: www.frankstockton.com, and ill as always, be at complex mag doin my thing.
